Simple and Direct

I’ve found it’s always best to be simple and direct when writing marketing copy. It makes your core message simple enough for anyone to understand and in does not waste their time decrypting what you’re really trying to say. I find that when copy starts resorting to phrases like Accelerated Emergence of High Maturity Behaviors or Human Capital it’s time to take a deep breath and re-think the approach. Sometimes going to UnSuck It (link) can be helpful in identifying crazy, overly-wordy marketing speak that only serves to fill a word count or baffle your audience with verbage.

This identity piece was an excellent learning experience.Mostly in how freelancing for an unstable start-up leads to a lack of communication and an eventual unpaid invoice. I never found out exactly what happened other than the company was dissolved shortly after I turned in the first round of comps for the logo and website.

Identity development for a unique coaching company.This was also the one and only time where work for one client caused another to cancel their contract with me. They felt that since I had produced a piece with “pagan symbols” it would taint their website with the devil. True story!

Cisco Flash Presentation

Sales presentation performed in Flash to help Cisco’s sales team magnify their effectiveness.

The brief was to create an animated sales presentation using a soundtrack performed by one of their sales team. The budget was small and the timeline tight. It’s amazing what you can do with a laptop, a good mic and sound processing software. Lasting 13 minutes and change, the project was delivered on time.

Designed for distribution via CD and web.

Los Arboles Tulum Signage

A series of 4′x6′ bilingual signs that were placed along to the road to the subdivision.

The project also included 2 billboards showing the subdivision layout and an example model home. It was just down the road from a major Mayan complex, too — sounds like a great place to retire!
